Days after pictures of Kastellio Vaughan looking emaciated surfaced online, the Alabama Dept. of Correction said he “has repeatedly denied [a] medical assessment and medical treatment.”
A press release contains information about Vaughan’s medical records and is released with his consent.
Records reveal that the 32-year-old underwent surgery on August 5, 2022. Following the procedure, he decided to be “exempted from medical advice.”
Reports also revealed that the organization could not force Vaughan to receive medical treatment.
Family Gets Lee Meritt As Their Lawyer
If you remember, his family kept lawyer Lee Meritt to investigate the alleged neglect after they shared photos on Facebook of him being malnourished.
Merritt’s attorneys released a press release saying that Kastellio had been moved from the Elmore Correctional Facility in Elmore County, Alabama, to the Stranton Correctional Facility in Montgomery.
Merritt’s attorney stated his plans to bring his client justice in a press release.
It reads:
The Alabama State Prison has an obligation to provide appropriate medical care to Mr. Vaughan while he remains in their custody. Prisoners are entitled to the same basic morals as everyone else in our country. My office has started work to make sure Mr. Vaughan received the healing his condition needed.
It continues:
We are also investigating whether the age of the state of Alabama violated their obligation to care for Mr. Vaughan by leaving his medical condition to Spyro to the point that is reflected in the images now circulating on the web.
