Prayagraj: The Global Hospital and Trauma Center in Prayagraj, where a dengue patient allegedly died after being transfused with fruit juice instead of blood platelets, now faces the threat of bulldozing.
The director of the hospital was given a demolition notice for construction without permission.
The hospital was built without a permit and must be vacated by Friday, the announcement said.
The hospital was closed last week after a preliminary investigation revealed errors on the part of its authorities. There are no more patients in the hospital.
The hospital authorities did not respond to earlier notices in this regard and a demolition order was passed earlier this year, the release said.
The family of the 32-year-old dengue patient had alleged that the hospital supplied sweet lime juice (mosambi) in a bag marked ‘plasma’. The patient’s health deteriorated after the bag transfusion and he died after being shifted to another hospital, his relatives claimed.
They claimed doctors at the second hospital told them the controversial bag of platelets contained a mixture of chemicals and something sweet like mosambi juice.
But a medical report on whether the disputed platelet bag contained fluid has not been made public.
The patient’s family had also demanded strict action against the hospital staff.
The Prayagraj police later busted a gang supplying ‘fake platelets’ and arrested 10 men. They were taking plasma from blood banks and repackaging it as platelets (both components of blood), police had said.
