Telkomsel Turns Off 3G Network in 143 Cities and Regencies

Jakarta, Gizmology – Telkomsel operators are gradually starting to switch 3G networks to 4G/LTE in a number of cities starting this July. The areas affected by Telkomsel’s 3G network blackout on that schedule include several cities/regencies on the islands of Java, Sumatra, Kalimantan, Bali – Nusa Tenggara, and Maluku – Papua.

As of July 20, 2022, there are at least 143 cities/regencies that can no longer access Telkomsel’s 3G network. After it is turned off, customers in the area will no longer be able to access Telkomsel’s 3G network.

“The 3G to 4G/LTE network upgrade program is carried out regularly while prioritizing customer convenience,” said Network Director of Telkomsel, Nugroho, in a press release, Friday (22/7/2022).

Various forms of socialization related to the 3G lethal injection program were intensively conveyed to customers in the target area. In the context of 4G migration, customers are advised to immediately upgrade their Telkomsel card from 3G to 4G.

“We hope that the process of upgrading 3G to 4G/LTE networks and accelerating customer migration can open wider opportunities for people to remote areas of the country in optimizing their various potentials to develop and advance, through the use of broadband access technology with leading digital technology from Telkomsel,” he explained.

3G Network Migration

The first phase of migration to 4G has taken place during the March-May period in 86 cities and regencies, while the second phase was completed in June in 91 cities and regencies. Until the second migration, the cellular operator found an increase in the number of customers migrating to uSIM 4G, namely 500,000 subscribers per month.

During the migration, they provide switching services to 4G inside and outside the network and promotion of data quota packages. Online, Telkomsel provides official stores in a number of market locations for consumers to replace or exchange non-4G cards to 4G uSIMs, including through Shopee, Tokopedia, Bukalapak and JD.ID.

Card replacement or exchange can also be done on the official GraPARI website. The 4G uSIM card will be sent to the destination address. There are also requirements for card replacement, you can ask through the MyTelkomsel application or Telkomsel’s official social media account.

Meanwhile, for offline services, consumers can visit GraPARI outlets and make sure the uSIM registration data is correct. Telkomsel recommends that consumers check the availability of the 4G network in their area before exchanging the card to a 4G uSIM, by contacting 88847#.
