Srikandi Bersatu Sabah still wants to contest four parliamentary seats

KOTA KINABALU: The heroine of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) Sabah remains steadfast in contesting four parliamentary seats ahead of the 15th General Election (GE-15).

Its chief, Datuk Seri Azizah Mohd. Dun said, Srikandi is very serious to contest in four of the 25 parliamentary seats in Sabah because potential candidates have already been identified.

“We must speak up for women because we have Srikandi candidates who are local children and understand the situation and the people in the area.

“It is not wrong if we submit the names of candidates in the four constituencies that we have identified, including Beaufort.

“However, if we are not given the areas we want then, we hope we will be given other areas that can win,” he said after chairing the Srikandi Bersatu meeting yesterday.

The Beaufort MP said the candidates identified were those who were educated, potential and had worked in the area consistently.

According to him, the candidates have the appropriate qualifications to be submitted to the national level or Parliament.

Azizah said, if the distribution of four seats to Srikandi can be done, it is a success because all this time when talking about the involvement of 30 percent women, it has not been implemented.

Commenting further, he said, the Srikandi candidates will focus on efforts to empower women, especially from an economic point of view to help women in rural areas out of the cocoon of poverty.

On the Beaufrot parliamentary seat, Azizah said, she as the incumbent of the seat will ensure that her successor is also Srikandi, if she is not nominated by the top leadership.

“In politics, there are times when we have to fight and there are times when we give way to others. Whatever we leave to the top leadership to make a decision, “he said.- UTUSAN
