Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB, for its Russian acronym) reported today that it had thwarted a terrorist attack in Russia’s Stavropol Territory prepared by supporters of Ukrainian nationalists.
According to the FSB statement released on Friday, the arrested group consisted of four people, supporters of the ideology of the Ukrainian Azov paramilitary regiment, a far-right organization banned in Russia.
During the arrest operation, firearms, ready-made explosive devices and components for the production of new ones were seized from the residences of those involved and at a place equipped for hiding in the Predgorny district of the Stavropol Territory.
Likewise, the FSB said it used methodological literature on the organization of mass riots and documents proving the planning of a terrorist attack on one of the administrative facilities in the region.
In this regard, Russian judicial authorities have initiated a criminal case under Article 205 of the Criminal Code regarding acts of terrorism, the FSB specified.
Located in the North Caucasus, the Stavropol Region is considered a major communication hub between Russia and the Caucasian nations: Azerbaijan, Georgia and Armenia.
