Bolton Wanderers

Celebrations were played for Stalybridge Celtic Juniors before joining the Bolton Wanderers youth system at the age of seven. He joined Liga Dos from Bury Club on loan on 26 March 2015, for the remainder of the 2014–15 season.

Holding made Bury’s only appearance on 3 April 2015, as a substitute for 79 minutes in the 2–0 win against Cambridge United. Upon his return to Bolton, he signed his professional contract with the club.

He made his debut at Bolton on 11 August 2015, as a starter in a 1–0 home loss against Burton Albion in the League Cup he scored his first goal for the club on 23 January 2016, in the seventh minute of a 3–1 home win against Milton Keynes Dons.

Holding was voted Bolton Wanderers player of the year for the 2015-16 season. He made 30 appearances, scoring goals as the team finished late in the championship and was relegated to League one.


Participation was signed for Arsenal from a Premier League club on 22 July 2016 for a rate of around 2 million. After injuries at the center of the Mertesacker and Gabriel Paulista reserves, he was called up to make his Arsenal debut in the 2016–17 Premier League season opener on 14 August 2016 against Liverpool, who Arsenal lost 4–3 at home. .

After his performance in the game against Leicester City, former Arsenal manager Orsene Wenger once famously spoke at his post-match press conference: “Unfortunately, no one is talking about Rob Holding’s performance. He should be happy, he’s British and 20 years old.

I’m sorry that it didn’t cost £55m, so that’s not great. In the final two months of the season, Holding became a regular member of Arsenal’s early alignment, with the team winning all six of the games it has played in the Premier League.

He played the full 90 minutes in Arsenal’s 2–1 win over Chelsea on 27 May in the 2017 FA Cup final at Wembley Stadium.

Holding played in the 2017 FA Community Shield on 6 August, where Arsenal won a penalty kick 4-1 at Chelsea after the 1-1 draw in extra time. He scored his first Arsenal goal on 28 September 2017, with a short-range shot in a 4–2 win over Bate Borisov in the UEFA Europa League. He signed a new long-term contract with the club on 1 May 2018.

On 5 December 2018, Holding suffered an anterior cross ligament injury in his left knee during a 2–2 draw against Manchester United. The retention will be submitted to surgery and it is expected that he will be gone for about six to nine months.

Holding returned to first-team action on 24 September 2019, in Arsenal’s 5–0 EFL Cup win against Nottingham Forest. He scored his return to injury with his first goal at the Emirates Stadium, scoring an Arsenal third-party goal from a corner by Reiss Nelson. On 1 August 2020, Holding was selected to start in the FA Cup final against Chelsea, and he won his second winner’s medal as Arsenal won their 14th FA Cup.

On 28 August 2020, his participation was in the 11th 2020 FA Community Shield, where Arsenal secured a 5–4 victory over Liverpool on penalties following a 1-1 draw after 90 minutes.

On 12 January 2021, Holding committed his future to Arsenal signing a new three and a half year agreement. He earned his number 100 shirt for Arsenal in a 3-1 win over Southampton two weeks later.

On 1 May 2022, Holding scored his first Premier League goal in his 81st appearance in the competition, earning Arsenal’s first goal through Bukayo Saka’s corner in a 2–1 away win against West Ham United at the London Stadium.

Eleven days later, Holding received the first red card of his career, collecting a second yellow against rivals Tottenham Hotspur in the 33rd minute of the north London derby after two crimes to be committed at Son Heung-min, with the arsenal losing 3–0.

Rob Holding International Careers

The England Sub-21 team was called up for the Toulon tournament in May 2016 as a replacement for Everton defender Brendan Galloway. He made his debut for Gareth Southgate’s side when he started against Guinea on 23 May.

England won the tournament while making two appearances, and were an unused substitute in the final on 29 May when England beat France 2-1.

He was selected for the England team for the 2017 UEFA European Championship in Poland but did not feature with England being eliminated in the semifinals. Holding made five appearances for children under 21 from 2016 to 2017.
