Time for another trip to the dojo.
On September 16, Sony announced plans for a new one Karate Boy the film will be released June 7, 2024, described as “the return of the original Karate Boy franchise.” But that’s all the details the studio provides.
Despite the secrecy, it is reasonable to think that Ralph Macchio—who played Daniel LaRusso in the first three Karate Boy films from 1984 to 1989 and reprising roles on Netflix Cobra Kai—may have some insight into the future of the franchise.
Turns out, not so much.
“I don’t know any other information,” said Macchio Weekly entertainment 30 September. It’s too early to tell what the story is [with the movie]. This is all, like, happening in real time when you ask me this question.”
Macchio remains cautiously optimistic that there may still be some waxing and waxing in store for him.
“I think so [will be figured out] in the near future, or I might have nothing to do with it,” he said. “We’ll talk when I know what’s going on.”
