PDRM Investigates Kit Siang’s Statement Accused of Threatening Public Order

KUALA LUMPUR, May 20 – The Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) has opened an investigation into the allegations made by Iskandar Puteri Member of Parliament Lim Kit Siang which allegedly contained statements that could threaten public order.

Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (CID) director Datuk Seri Abd Jalil Hassan said in a statement that the screenshot image of the tweet was spread on the WhatsApp application since yesterday.

He said the investigation was conducted by the Classified Criminal Investigation Unit, Prosecution/Legal Division (D5), JSJ Bukit Aman under Section 505 (c) of the Penal Code for issuing statements with intent to incite any group or race and Section 233 of the Communications Act and Multimedia 1998 i.e. improper use of network facilities or network services.

He also advised the public not to make any speculations that could affect the investigation and to be smart, prudent social media users and not to use the platform to spread any information that could cause public fear and threaten national harmony.
