As we approach the end of September with no updates, fans are assuming that Need for Speed 2022 (allegedly called Need for Speed Unbound) will be delayed until early next year. The last official word from EA is that the new NFS is coming at the end of the year but there hasn’t been an update since early August.
But after a lot of leaks and rumors, reliable EA insider Tom Henderson claims that the reveal of Need for Speed 2022 is now “imminent.”
Need for Speed 2022 will be revealed in two weeks
According to Henderson via Insider Gaming, the long-awaited reveal of Need for Speed 2022 will take place “in the next two weeks.”
Coincidentally, Need for Speed Heat is currently on sale on Steam at 95% off until October 11, likely to coincide with its reveal. No exact date yet, but NFS 2022 will reportedly be revealed in early October.
Henderson claims the trailer is about one minute 30 seconds long with a soundtrack featuring American rapper A$AP Rocky.
Release date early December
We also now have a potential Need for Speed 2022 release date. Henderson’s sources also claim NFS 2022 will be released on December 2 – less than two months after the reveal.
Henderson’s sources have also confirmed rumors that NFS 2022 will be the current generation-only title for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
As we have seen in the leaked gameplay footage, NFS 2022 is expected to include anime elements with fire, smoke and flame effects emerging from cars. A recently leaked gameplay clip shows cartoon wings emerging from a car.
NFS 2022 is also expected to be heavily multiplayer-focused, with the return of Autoblog and a Meetups feature that allows people to organize races around maps and bet on racers.
It’s been a long wait, but it looks like EA is almost ready to show off what Criterion has been cooking for the last three years.
