Ja Morant knows all the tricks.
Ja Morant did his homework on Ben Simmons and it paid off, which is exactly what happened with Ja Morant on Monday night. He faced Ben Simmons, who committed five fouls. And as the superstar Memphis Grizzlies noted after Simmons’ win over the Brooklyn Nets, Ja remembered something from his rookie year, when Simmons later with the Philadelphia 76ers stole the ball from Morant while the guard was looking at his coach for play.

So Morant lured him to do the same. He saw his coach Ben Simmons come in for the ball, and Morant made him foul for the second time this year.

This was Simmons’ second foul this year and it brought the competition between his points total (17) and total fouls (14) even closer.
“I just saw the game,” Simmons said after the game. “It’s not a violation. [Orr] calling it an offence, making a mistake, that’s what happened… it was really frustrating… it wasn’t an offence, but it was a bull—. It’s frustrating because it’s the final game, the fourth quarter, it’s a tough physical game. This is the NBA. This isn’t college. This is not high school. Some people will get hit, some will bleed; it’s basketball.”
Steve Nash, who is still there, was asked to identify the problem. And he had the same answer as everyone else.
“I think rust,” Nash said of what he believes is holding Simmons back the most at the moment. “I just don’t think he plays a lot of basketball. So he’s just trying to get his game back, his confidence and his familiarity. It’s been 18 months, basically, so that’s a long time of inactivity. For anyone who’s ever played this game, you know it’s really hard.”
After Simmons slowly exited the game and Steve Nash gave a slight scream, the ball was played back briefly before another whistle was blown. This caused the animated Kevin Durant to shout, “What are we doing!?” as Ja Morant saw it.
Ja Morant took advantage of that Ben Simmons rust.
