IDXChannel – Professor of IPB and member of the Association of Seed Banks and Indonesian Farmer Technology (AB2TI), Prof. Dwi Andreas Santosa, revealed interesting facts related to the condition of Indonesian agriculture. One of them is millennials’ reluctance to become farmers.
Dwi explained, based on the monthly AB2TI survey in all farmer networks in 46 districts from August 2019 to June 2022, the price of harvested dry grain at the farmer level continued to decline.
“Our fellow farmers are getting lazy to plant rice. Why are we lazy to plant rice? Because there is a lot of confusion between production costs and selling prices. The farmers will lose out,” he explained.
Therefore, continued Dwi, there is no doubt that currently millennials are not interested in farming.
