Dr Ahmad Samhan through his Twitter account explained 10 facts why mothers and fathers should forbid their children to eat instant noodles.

1. Cancer risk
The packaging contains dioxins and plasticizers that can increase the risk of cancer.

2. Risk of obesity
According to the Hong Kong Consumer Council (HKCC) and Center for Food Safety (CFS), 3 cups of instant noodles contain 30 grams of fat or per pack which puts children at risk for obesity.

3. Metabolic disease
A Harvard University study showed that children who eat two packs a week are at risk of developing metabolic diseases such as high blood pressure, diabetes, stroke, and heart disease.

4. Risk of depression, skin allergies
Studies in Korea show that consumption of fast food such as instant noodles is associated with an increased risk of depression among teenage girls in Korea as well as skin allergy problems among adults.

5. Visual disturbance
Artificial dyes, such as Sunset Yellow FCF and Tartrazine, contribute to hyperactivity in children and can also contribute to impaired vision and learning and nerve damage.

6. Memory impairment
The content of MSG (Monosodium Glutamate) which is a flavor enhancer in instant noodles has also been shown to cause a decline in memory and the human brain.

7. Broken heart
Instant noodles are also coated with ‘wax’ or wax during the processing process. The wax gives a ‘smooth’ texture to the surface of the noodles. Consuming these harmful substances can cause liver damage.

8. Materials from petroleum industry
Tertiary-butyl hydroquinone (TBHQ) is a product of the petroleum industry. So, it can be harmful to the child’s health.
