Heartbreak Island Australia premiere sees love FIZZLING rather than sizzling

New dating show Heartbreak Island Australia debuted to a rocky start on Thursday as one couple repeatedly bickered throughout the series premiere.

Sparks were decidedly not flying between paired contestants Max Batchelor and Alexandra Carter, both 21, and it became apparent that neither was each other’s preferred match.

Both had sour expressions on their faces throughout the episode and later made snide remarks about each other as the show went on.

Professional footballer Max tried to make the best of the situation and said that although he was initially disappointed at being paired with Alexandra, ‘she does look a lot better in person than her profile did.’

Bar manager Alexandra was equally philosophical and said, ‘It’s still early days, so we’ll see how everything goes.’

A later game of Truth or Dare between the contestants, however, did indeed reveal some unpleasant truths and led to some uncomfortable exchanges.

While playing Max was asked to kiss the girl he most fancied resulting in him walking straight past Alex to lock lips with Kasey, 23.

Alex eventually had enough of Max’s behaviour and told him off with some choice words, calling him a ‘snake’.

Heartbreak Island Australia was promoted by Channel Seven as having the ‘raunchiest moments and biggest scandals’ of 2022 in reality television.

Hosted by New Zealand television personality Clinton Randell, it follows 16 sexy singles from Australia, New Zealand, the UK and America looking for love in Fiji as they compete to win a cash prize of $100,000.

The show aims push the boundaries of love with challenges that test the contestants’ ‘physicality, puzzle solving skills and relationships’.

It also adds a shocking elimination twist called ‘the playback’ where the singles get the chance to put their partners up to save someone who is facing the boot.
