KUALA SELANGOR, 8 Zulhijjah 1443H, Friday – The Ministry of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives has established the Poultry Federation to play a role in preventing the existence of ‘middlemen’ to ensure that costs can be reduced so that lower chicken prices can be sold to consumers.
Its minister, Tan Sri Noh Omar said the federation, which was comprised of cooperatives and entrepreneurs involved in poultry farming as well as wholesalers, would work together for the operation of chicken collection and distribution centers in each state.
“In every state there is such a center and the Federation established under the Malaysian Cooperative Commission will buy chickens from farms and collected at the center which is then distributed and sold directly to consumers,” he told reporters after the Outstanding Service Awards Ceremony (APC) 2021 Kuala Selangor District Education Office, today.
Also present was Finance Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz.
Through the federation, he said consumers would get a cheaper chicken price offer compared to the price in the foreign market.
“Right now we are making an agreement with 15 cooperatives and other companies involved, God willing, in the near future it will be implemented,” he said.
Apart from that, Noh said his ministry would also bring in frozen chicken from abroad to the collection and distribution center to provide consumers with options other than fresh chicken.
“Like meat, we have fresh meat and frozen meat, but we will make sure that the frozen chicken is cheaper than fresh chicken,” he said. – Named
