Everton leave Frank Lampard ‘frustrated’ in pursuit of PSG star Idrissa Gueye
Everton boss Frank Lampard is ‘frustrated’ that his Merseyside team have yet to sign Idrissa Gana Gueye from Paris Saint-Germain. That’s according to the Liverpool Echo, who noted the Toffees are now running out of time for the Senegal star to play at Aston Villa this Saturday.
The leadership of Goodison Park is also increasingly confused as to why Gueye has not agreed to rejoin them. Everton offered the 32-year-old what the club believed to be a very attractive salary to return to the Premier League after three seasons at the Ligue 1 club.
Gueye is currently training away from the Paris Saint-Germain first team after Christophe Galtier deemed him surplus to requirements. Lampard also personally phoned the £30m arrival of Les Parisiens from The Toffees to convince him to now rejoin Everton.
But Gueye is still not fully committed to leaving the Parc des Princes, where the 94 caps ace is only under contract until next June. And the Daily Mail reports that Everton are willing to drop their interest in Gueye in favor of signing Mohamed Camara from RB Salzburg this summer.
The Toffees offer Idrissa Gueye a contract similar to that of the midfielder’s first spell
Lampard is determined to get a midfielder who can operate as an in-and-out anchor in his engine room. It’s a position the Toffees boss has flagged as a needed area throughout the season, but was unable to get a deal done before starting the season against Chelsea.
Gueye looks set to re-sign for Everton three seasons after leaving Goodison Park to join Paris Saint-Germain to end Lampard’s search. TuttoMercatoWEB mentions his return is on the cusp of finishing for €5m (£4m) last week after receiving a net wage of €4m per year.
A £65k per week salary would see Gueye earn slightly less than the £70k per week requirement he earned to join The Toffees from Aston Villa for £7m following their relegation in 2016.
