Ethiopian Civilian Burning Video – The Ethiopian government said on Saturday that it would take action against the perpetrators after a video emerged via web-based media showing outfitted men, some in military regalia, relentlessly eating ordinary citizens in the west of the country.
The Ethiopian Government Communications Service said in a proclamation on its Facebook page that the episode took place in Ayisid Kebele of the Metekel Zone at the site of Benishangul-Gumuz, a site of more than a year of common ethnic crime in which many ordinary people have kicked buckets.
A horrific and cold-hearted demonstration was recently dedicated… In a series of gruesome images aired through online media, innocent ordinary citizens were burned to death,” the statement said.
It did not say when the incident occurred or who was responsible. Regardless of their starting point or personality, public authorities will make lawful steps against those responsible for this clean and insensitive demonstration.”
Reuters was unable to examine the overall settings in which the video was recorded or the activity it displayed.
In the video, some of the men in the group wear Ethiopian military attire as well as a sign of greatness from other territorial security forces.
Military representative Colonel Getnet Adane and Legesse Tulu government representatives did not immediately respond to requests for input.
The atrocities in the Benishangul-Gumuz district, which is home to several ethnic gatherings, are isolated from the conflict in the northern Tigray region that erupted in November 2020 between Ethiopian government forces and dissident forces from the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF).
