What is an Integer?

Integer comes from the Latin “integer” which means whole. It is a special collection of integers consisting of zero, positive and negative numbers and is denoted by the letter Z.
Example Integer – 1, 6, 15.
Fractions, decimals, and percents are out of this basket. Example – -2.4, 3/4, 90.6.

There are three Types of Integer:

1. associative
2. commutative
3. Distributive

We live in a world of numbers where everything depends on numbers.

They categorize numbers based on their similarities and inequalities.

Integer Type

Integers are of three types:

• Nol
• Positive Numbers (Natural)
• Negative Numbers (Negative Natural Numbers)

Positive numbers are numbers with a plus sign (+). Often, positive numbers are represented as integers without the plus sign (+).

Every positive number is greater than zero as well as any negative number. On the number line, positive numbers are represented to the right of zero.

Example: 1,2, 200, 5666,99999999, etc.

Negative numbers

Unlike positive numbers, negative numbers are numbers symbolized by a minus sign (-).

Negative numbers are represented to the left of zero on the number line.

Examples:., -99999, -150, -10, -1.

Nol

Zero is not a positive or negative integer. It is a neutral number i.e. zero has no sign (+ or -).

Application of Integers

Integers are not just numbers on paper; they have many real life applications.

The influence of positive and negative numbers in the real world is different. They are mainly used to symbolize two conflicting situations.

For example, if the temperature is above zero, a positive number is used to indicate the temperature, while a negative number indicates a temperature below zero.

They help one to compare and measure two things like how big or small or more or less things are and hence can measure something.

Some real-life situations where integers come into play are player scores in golf, football and hockey tournaments, movie or song ratings, bank credits and debits represented as positive and negative sums respectively.
