The upcoming Dead Space Remake will be one shot at a time with no loading screen or camera cropping, developer Motive has revealed in a new blog post.
Titled ‘Inside Dead Space: Remaking A Classic’, the developers detail exactly how they approached the remake and how they intend to “never betray the original”. According to Senior Producer Philippe Ducharme, Motive will “respect the legacy” of the original game and will view it with the “highest respect”.
Ducharme went on to reveal how the core foundation of the game will remain the same, but with new improvements to make the experience exciting for both new and returning players. One of the most interesting features that Motif reveals is the intention to make the game one shot in a row.
“We’ve also literally rendered the entire game as one shot in sequence. From the moment you start the game to the moment you end the game, there’s no camera cropping or screen loading—unless you die.”, Ducharme states in a new blog post. The Senior Producer went on to state that The Ishimura is now fully interconnected, meaning players can walk from one point of the ship to another in a “completely unbroken experience”.
Motif goes on to detail a number of new improvements available in the remake, such as the feeling of moving in zero gravity. According to Creative Director Roman Campos-Oriola, Dead Space Remake will feature “more 360 degrees of freedom”, allowing players to feel as if they are actually in outer space.
Along with a plethora of gameplay improvements, Motive stated that they too have returned and taken a look at the lore of the Dead Space series, which is much broader than just the original game. “There is Dead Space 2, Dead Space 3comic books—these all add extra lore that we put back into the game.”, Motive states.
Despite the lengthy blog post detailing all the new features and improvements, the developers made it clear that their primary mission was to honor the original Dead Space and stay true to the experience. Dead Space will release on January 27, 2023 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
