ALOR SETAR: An 11-year-old boy had to endure pain for almost 30 minutes, when his right toe got stuck on an escalator at a shopping mall here, today.

A spokesman for the Operations Center of the Fire and Rescue Department of Malaysia (JBPM) Kedah said they received an emergency call from the management of the mall at 2.54 pm.

“A total of seven officers and members went to the scene. The rescue work also received assistance from the maintenance of the mall, and it took about 15 minutes to remove the victim’s stuck toes.

“Initial treatment was provided by the Emergency Medical Rescue Service (EMRS), before the victim was taken to Putra Medical Center (PMC) by the management of the mall, for further treatment,” he said in a statement here today.

Bernama reporters who happened to be at the scene heard the boy’s screams and cries, before rushing to the escalator located on the second floor of the shopping center.

“The maintenance team tried to help the victim before the fire brigade arrived, but I asked them to stop because at that time the victim was crying and screaming in pain. I was worried there would be more serious injuries.

“As soon as the firefighters arrived, they tried to calm the victim while trying to remove his pinched toe. After about 15 minutes, it was successfully removed and the victim suffered minor injuries to his right toe, “he said.-AlHijrah Online
