Chelsea Win Opening Game Of USA Tour.

(CTN News) – It was an even contest between Chelsea and Mexican giants Club America on the opening day of Chelsea’s three-game U.S. tour at the Venetian in Las Vegas.

The winner of the game was determined by a sensational goal scored by Mason Mount from outside the box seven minutes from time.

In the first half, Chelsea took the lead just before the hour mark on a Timo Werner goal, but a Reece James back pass that beat his own goalkeeper in the second half gifted Club America a momentary equalizer.

There was a front line composed of Callum Hudson-Odoi, Kai Havertz, and Hakim Ziyech starting for Chelsea under manager Thomas Tuchel, but they could not produce a goal, despite the fact that Ziyech played a key role throughout.

After a scoreless first half, right wingback Kenedy unleashed a curler and Thiago Silva sent a header on goal, but in both instances the club goalkeeper had the last say, stopping both shots.

After the interval, the team had a brand new lineup on the field and it was Werner who ended up scoring the game-winning goal in the 55th minute, after his initial effort was saved.

A backpass from Chelsea teammate Reece James was not expected by Chelsea goalkeeper Marcus Bettinelli, and it went right past him to make it 1-1 five minutes later.

Despite the fact that Pulisic had a clear look at a wide open header that he missed the target, Mount made up for the mistake with a stunning strike that made up for Pulisic’s missed opportunity.

There are two new Chelsea signings – Raheem Sterling and Kalidou Koulibaly – who are officially with the club in Las Vegas, even though neither of them have logged enough training sessions to be considered for selection against Club America.

It is anticipated that the Blues will complete the U.S. tour with games against MLS club Charlotte FC (July 20) and London rivals Arsenal (July 23) before returning home.

The Premier League season for Chelsea begins on August 6 when they face Everton in the opening match.

On Wednesday, July 20, Club America will take on Manchester City in its final game of this season’s Apertura before returning to action in Liga MX action on Saturday, July 23 at Tijuana for the final game of the season.

Club America continues to struggle with attacking

A Mexican team went toe-to-toe with an elite squad in the world, showcasing hard work and personality both on and off the field.

The late wonder strike through traffic won’t make you feel bad. It was evident in the attack that Las Aguilas still don’t have a formula for scoring goals that works – America were outshot 19-7 and none of their seven shots found the net.

The Argentina team has several players who can help the attacking buildup, including Diego Valdes, “Cabecita” Rodriguez, and Alvaro Fidalgo. However, they need someone who can score goals.

In the absence of Henry Martin and Roman Martinez, Cabecita will be expected to fill that role, since Henry Martin is not available today, and the teenager does not fit the role at present.
