Chelsea are scrambling for a £50m deal for Brighton right-back Mark Cucurella, according to reports.
The Blues have long followed Cucurella, who came through Barcelona’s academy and impressed at Getafe before joining Brighton in 2021.
Brighton are understood to be expecting a £50m valuation from Cucurella, who is believed to have halted a potential move to Manchester City.
Chelsea have continued to reshape the team under new owners Todd Boehle and Clearlake Capital, with manager Thomas Tuchel clearly keen on signing another defender.
The Blues are also believed to have a strong interest in Wesley Fofana from Leicester, although it will be difficult to get the French star out of the King Power Stadium.
Cucurella is believed to be open about a move away from Chelsea, with the Spaniard already expressing his desire for a new challenge amid widespread interest from Manchester City.
Chelsea have closed big deals with Raheem Sterling and Kalidou Koulibaly, but they are determined to add a new face to the team.
However, Kepa Arrizabalaga could go the other way, as Napoli are understood to be pushing hard for the Spaniard’s loan.
Rookie Koulibaly will wear number 26 at Chelsea this season, revealing that he has sought John Terry’s approval for the former England defender’s number at the West London club.
Coulibaly posted a video on social media of his phone call with Terry, seeking the former Chelsea captain’s blessing for wearing the number he used at Stamford Bridge so special.
