New York: Prince Harry’s publisher said on Thursday that Prince Harry will publish his comprehensive memoirs in January, with a much-anticipated account of life in the British monarchy, and his resignation from royal duties, just four months after the death of Queen Elizabeth II. Harry’s book – who now lives in California with his wife Meghan Markle – comes at a sensitive time. There has been intense speculation that the Prince could pull the veil off palace life and make a devastating revelation, or pull his punches in the wake of Elizabeth’s death as Britain adjusts to its new head of state, King Charles III.
The memoir “Spear” will hit shelves on January 10, 2023. “We are excited to announce the powerful personal and emotional story of Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex,” Penguin Random House said on Twitter. He described the book on his website as a window into how the prince dealt with the death of his mother Diana 25 years ago, and how his life has been affected since then. “With unwavering honesty, Spear is a historical publication full of insight, revelation, self-examination, and hard-earned wisdom about the eternal power of love over grief,” said Benjon Random.
Diana, Princess of Wales, died in a high-speed car crash in Paris on August 31, 1997. Britain was mired in an avalanche of grief that shook the monarchy, and that was seen by some as out of reach. In addition to the title alluding to Harry’s apparent attempt to lead a simpler, less fancy lifestyle, it also hints at his status as a “reserve” for his older brother Prince William’s role as “heir” to the British throne.
Harry and Meghan surprised his family by announcing they were stepping down from their royal duties and moving to the United States in early 2020. From there, they launched a series of criticisms of their life in the establishment, including allegations of racism and the failure of the Crown to support them. Amid relentless popular attacks.
Their public criticism exacerbated tensions with William – with whom he reportedly did not speak much – and with their father, King Charles. Harry and Meghan now live with their two children, Archie and Lillibet, in Santa Barbara, California.
‘Highs and Lows’
In July last year, Harry announced that he had been writing a memoir that would expose the “mistakes” and “lessons learned” of his life. Harry said at the time, “I am writing this not as the prince I was born, but as the man I became.”
“I have worn many hats over the years, both literally and figuratively, and I hope that by telling my story — the highs and lows, the mistakes, the lessons learned — I can help show that no matter where we come from, we have more in common than we think. “.
He said he was “excited for people to read a straightforward account of my life that’s so accurate and honest.” But any additional careless and outspoken statements – other than those made by Harry during a high-profile interview with Oprah Winfrey last year – about the royal family after the Queen’s death could backfire.
The New York Times reported that “Prince Harry became cold about the contents of the memoir at various points, book industry executives familiar with the process told The Times, and the project was shrouded in rumours, delays and secrecy.” The publisher added that Harry will use the proceeds of the memoir, which will be issued in 16 languages, to donate to British charities. – France Press agency
