A 32-year-old patient escaped from a ward in a private hospital in Kedah after discovering that her insurance did not cover the illness she was treating.
According to Metro Haryan, Kuala Moda District Police Chief Zaidi Che Hassan said the woman was admitted to hospital at 6.40pm on October 24, but disappeared four hours later.
At 9:30 p.m., the hospital informed the woman that her insurance did not cover the treatment. Thus, she refused to receive treatment and demanded to leave the ward.”
“Then, the nurse informed the doctor that the patient has since been discharged and will pay the balance and will take the medicines at the pharmacy,” he said.
However, at 10.40pm, the patient was nowhere to be found on the ward, and no payments were made.
Zaidi said that the hospital administration tried to contact the woman via her phone, but to no avail.
Even the police failed to reach her
After the police report was filed, the police also moved to get to her.
The police also called the patient, but there was no answer. They even tried to find her at home but she was not at home with the door locked,” said Zaidi.
He said that the initial investigation found that the woman was suffering from stomach pains when she was sent to the hospital.
“The examination found that the patient had gastritis, but her insurance policy did not cover this disease, so she was taken off the ward.”
“We are still conducting further investigations and tracing the patient,” he said.
